Tatami Mats
Each Fuji tatami mat is 1m x 2m, with 1m x 1m half mats, in 25mm, 40mm or 50mm. Clubs and home dojos use our tatami mats as judo mats and for BJJ, karate, Aikido and MMA: the textured surface grips for gi work and throws, and the foam core absorbs falls.
Training Series or Pro Series?
- Training Series: for club and home training: Fuji Training Tatami Mats (40mm), Fuji 50mm Tatami Training Mats and Fuji Training Series Tatami Half Mats. They use 220kg/m³ foam, carry a 3-year warranty, and are for training only, not competition.
- Pro Series: Fuji Pro Series Tatami Mats and Fuji Pro Series Tatami Half Mats are IJF, EJU, ADCC and IBJJF Approved. They use 240kg/m³ foam and carry a 5-year warranty.
Both series are used by many World and Olympic Champions, as well as UFC athletes.
Which thickness?
- 25mm: stand-up arts such as karate, taekwondo and kickboxing.
- 40mm: grappling arts and MMA.
- 50mm: serious elite gyms.
Under the IJF Tatami Regulation (June 2022), official mats are 1m x 2m x 50mm. Many federations accept 40mm mats for club and training use, but official IJF events require approved 50mm mats.
Full mats come in 40mm or 50mm. For 25mm, ask us about Training Series mats; 25mm Pro Series half mats are available to order.
How many mats do you need?
Each full tatami mat covers 2m², so divide your floor area by two, allowing for cuts. See our guide to cutting tatami or MMA mats. Half mats fill gaps. Tape is in Mat Tapes.
Tatami or smooth?
Tatami has more grip for gi training. Smooth MMA vinyl suits no-gi, wrestling and MMA; compare Smooth MMA Mats.
